Chagrin Falls students teach computer skills to Hamlet Village seniors   by Liba456

That’s the lesson two disappointment Falls student are both teaching and knowledge as they instruct inhaabitants at Hamlet Village.
The students, ninth-grader Elan Levi and eighth-grader Brandon Suzelis, determined to begin a weekly central processing unit course at Hamlet Village. The itinerary runs two hours and has generated so a large amount interest that the students determined to branch their lessons to residents at in cooperation the Atrium and manor house House.
The Atrium is a capacity within Hamlet Village that provides inhabitants with assisted living, while the Manor House offers more extensive nursing care.
“I had already volunteered there at poles apart, randomized times all the way through this past year and consideration that it was an interesting knowledge,” Levi said. He and Suzelis teamed up in July and begin instructing residents.
“It is a little more complicated what time teaching residents from the manor house House, as we have to help them by on foot through things more thoroughly and repeat things more often. However, it all ends the corresponding,” Levi said.
A typical class begins with an appraisal of basic computer skills, such as by means of a keyboard, mouse and desktop. The students then progress into teaching populace how to create written papers and surf the Internet.
“At first some people didn’t be familiar with what a keyboard was, but now nearly all of the populace knows how to type,” Levi said. “They are all at different chairs in their learning, but they are responsibility well. All the residents at Hamlet rural community are really smart and they each and every one ask a lot of questions.”
About two-thirds of each class tends to have some basic knowledge of computer, Suzelis said, and the average class amount consists of about six inhabitants.
“People come in and out of the class as they please. It’s not like an academic class. People just come in and jump in wherever we are,” Suzelis said.
Levi said some of the inhabitants drop into the course for spare time purposes, while others are there to obtain assistance with technological issues with their e-mail financial records, printers and so forth.
“I’ve gone into residents’ apartments and helped them with individual issue, as well as working through the residents as a group,” Suzelis said.
Suzelis said for some residents, health check conditions are obstacles to scholarship.
“Some of the residents have fading vision, and some are in wheelchairs. This equipment have presented challenge, but we’ve been able in the direction of work with them,” he said.
While Suzelis still has to whole grades 9-12, he already knows a career in computer could be in his future.
“I’m pretty good at computer, which is why I decided to join Elan at settlement,” he said.
Both students plan to persist volunteering throughout the remainder of the summer and state they are pleased to be helping others.
“Volunteering at Hamlet is instruction me as a person that anybody at several age can still learn. I’m glad to be doing incredible good and giving something back,” Levi thought.
